animal life cycle [animated pictures and text] [butterfly] [appear]

  • Stage 1 :
    The adult female butterfly lays
her eggs on the underside of a
    leaf to protect them from
    predators.

  • Stage 2 :
    From each egg emerges a
    caterpillar which begins to
    feed on the vegetation it
    finds around.

  • Stage 3 :
    The grown caterpillar sticks
itself to the underside of a leaf
and covers itself in a hard
    coating.

  • Stage 4 :
    The hard coating begins to
    crack and eventually a newly
    formed butterfly emerges
    into the world.

  • Stage 5 :
    The adult butterfly then starts
    the whole life cycle process
off again by beginning to find
    a mate.
