animal habitats [flip boxes and text]

flip-boxes-and-text [large] [habitats]
Desert Habitat
A desert is a barren area of land where little precipitation occurs and consequently living conditions are hostile for plant and animal life. The lack of vegetation exposes the unprotected surface of the ground to the processes of erosion. About one third of the land surface of the world is arid or semi-arid. This includes much of the polar regions which are sometimes called polar deserts or "cold deserts"
Coastal Habitat
A coastline or a seashore is the area where land meets the sea or ocean,[1] or a line that forms the boundary between the land and the ocean or a lake.[2] The term coastal zone is a region where interaction of the sea and land processes occurs.[3] Both the terms coast and coastal are often used to describe a geographic location or region.
Tropical Rainforest Habitat
Tropical rainforests occur in areas of a tropical climate in which there is no dry season. Where all months have an average rainfall of at least 60 mm. True rainforests are typically found between 10 degrees north and south of the equator between the Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn.
Tropical Grassland (Savannah) Habitat
Grasslands are areas where the vegetation is dominated by grasses including sedge and rush families. Grasslands occur naturally on all continents except Antarctica. Grasslands are found in most regions of the Earth.
Polar Habitat
The polar regions of Earth, also known as 'frigid zones'and are the regions surrounding its geographical poles (the North and South Poles). These regions are dominated by polar ice caps, the northern resting on the Arctic Ocean and the southern on the continent of Antarctica.
Wetland Habitat
A wetland is a land area that is saturated with water, either permanently or seasonally and has characteristic vegetation of aquatic plants. Wetlands play a number of roles in the environment, principally water purification, flood control, carbon sink and shoreline stability. Wetlands are also considered the most biologically diverse of all ecosystems, serving as home to a wide range of plant and animal life.
